Honouring heritage through creative direction.
The William Morris Society plays a big role in preserving the artistic legacy of William Morris alongside his daughter May Morris. Operating as a dedicated charity and museum, the team works tirelessly to share historical craft traditions with the public. When the time came to launch Morris Month, a campaign celebrating the birthdays of both iconic figures, the Society wanted to create a memorable experience. They planned a diverse calendar of events and needed a unified visual identity to bring every initiative together.
Before partnering with Beacon, the internal team handled all design and copywriting in-house. While they had clear and admirable passion, managing creative production alongside daily museum operations stretched their capacity thin. They wanted Morris Month to feel unified, but limited time made it difficult to achieve the elevated visual finish they wanted. The campaign needed to connect various activities while honoring historic artistic traditions. Achieving that balance required dedicated creative support, which brought the Society to Beacon.

The Beacon team stepped in to take the entire creative workload off their shoulders. Our team developed a refined visual identity and social media content plan that honored classic patterns while adding a contemporary digital touch. To ensure long term value, we built all digital assets using editable Canva templates. This choice gave the charity complete freedom to adapt materials for future campaigns without needing ongoing technical assistance.
This flexible approach also solved an essential collaboration challenge. The Society planned to partner with major cultural institutions like the V&A Museum and the National Trust. We also ensured assets were ready for partners such as the Ashmolean Museum. By providing flexible digital templates, we enabled external partners to co-promote Morris Month across their own channels easily.
To support the campaign from September through March, we produced a full suite of creative deliverables:
- A comprehensive brand guidelines document featuring campaign patterns and a unified colour palette
- A strategic digital content plan alongside custom web banners
- Branded email signatures and a striking A1 poster for physical displays
- Social media hero images with text overlays and multi-slide carousels
- Custom reel thumbnails alongside newsletter headers
- An animated social media graphic featuring bird and floral elements inspired by original Morris patterns
"Working with Beacon on Morris Month at the William Morris Society was a fantastic experience for our small charity and museum. Their team understood our objectives and requirements from the outset and offered us guidance and support throughout the process. Beacon brought creativity and professionalism to the branding they provided, something that we simply could not have done ourselves in-house. Morris Month was a new venture for the Society and we received many positive comments from other organisations about the branding Beacon developed for us, with particular praise for the animated bird and flowers for our social media platforms. Their designs stayed true to William Morris's original patterns, whilst providing a contemporary flourish. We look forward to working with them again on future projects throughout the rest of the year." - The William Morris Team

The launch of Morris Month generated wonderful engagement across the heritage sector. The Board of Trustees praised the elevated visual identity, and partner organisations shared glowing feedback. Beyond the initial success of the campaign, the project established a strong foundation for future work. Beacon is now collaborating with the Society on additional projects.
